Sea and sun and ink

Today a large yellow disc appeared in the sky and we took full advantage of it and went paddling in the sea. There's something about the sun and the seaside that turns everyone into a 5 year old. Simple joy. Oh and I'm getting a new tattoo on Wednesday. My own design. Pictures when it has been done

Even more bags

Been playing with 'HDR Camera+' for Android. Colour me quite impressed. Not as OTT as I was expecting. Also downloaded 'Retro Camera' but haven't had a chance to really try it out. Will it send the Holga into retirement? Probably not but it'll be a bit easier to lug around.

Michelle bought another new bag today. It was put in a bag. I had to carry my bag and her new bag which was in a bag. Plus some other bags. Too many bags.

Not really new camera

Some time ago my girlfriend upgraded her phone to a Samsung Galaxy 551. Anyhoo, long story short, she and Android didn't get on so she went back to her old handset. The 551 was put in a cupboard and stayed there until I saw a bit over on PhotoJoJo about Android apps for photography. So I rescued the handset and now have a touchscreen camera. OK the camera is only 3.5 mega pixels and has no flash but I'll let you know the apps I'm using. Might even review a couple but I'll let you know how I go on with my first serious foray into Android land.

Went to Littledean Jail in the Forest Of Dean today. Wonderfully politically incorrect but well worth a visit. Its a bit like taking a step into the pages of Fortean Times or Bizzare magazine. Just don't get caught out - cash only, no cards.

Why I love film cameras and why I hate film cameras

Today was a day of contrasts. I took an old 35mm film camera out with me and spent the day using that and the old Coronet medium format camera. I was reminded why I fell in love with photography in the first place. The DSLR stayed in its bag, unused and for today unloved.

I love film.

When I got home, full of myself and remembering how great film is, I had a stark lesson in why film can also be crap.

You've probably guessed by now that I'd spent the day shooting with an empty camera!

I hate film.

I bought a new bag today. The shop put it in a bag. So I had to carry around a bag containing a bag and my old bag. My life is so exhausting sometimes!

A Review

Here's a new one for me. I'm going to call it 'my quick, knee-jerk, in the car-park review' of the film I've just seen.


Today - Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.


Pros - not as confused as some of the 'Pirates' movies, Ian McShane and Geoffrey Rush hamming things up.
Cons - the 3D doesn't work, is about 3/4 hour too long, actually quite boring for long stretches.
My score - 2/5.


If I manage the cinema a bit more often (I find the crowds difficult which is why it's usually a couple of weeks before I get round to seeing things) I might make 'my quick, knee-jerk, in the car-park review' a regular thing.

New Camera

Looky look look at what I've been playing with. Got it from Michelle's mother and it's fantastic. A nd before you ask, yes it does. 120 film being developed by Palm Labs who I mentioned before. Actually had a roll of film in it which I hope will give me some images. Don't know how old it was but Kodak stopped making it in 1940!

Mothering Sunday

Happy Mothers' Day mum. Just waiting for a good friend of mine (Jane Barrie) to do some graphics for me and the new website is all go.

Film and stuff

Had some 120 film delivered from 7dayshop - not the cheapest but quick and efficient. Along with Palm Labs in Birmingham for the processing (I know I should carry on doing it at home but I can't really be bothered lol) and my lovely new Epson scanner, I'm sorted.

Still re-designing website but the laptop is getting on my nerves with its stupid work on minute and not the next touchpad.
